OUR HISTORY
It was the year 2018 when four friends
joined together in Kigamboni, Dar es Salaam, and collected their ideas for opening an organization that would benefit the district's community. Jamii Kwanza was born.

"Jamii Kwanza" meaning as much as "community first," started as a small center for children, youth, and even adults to meet, share their talents, teach, learn and spend valuable time together. Since we officially registered as an NGO in January of 2020, our community has grown and we have increased the range of activities and social actions. Currently, we are situated in Tungi, Kigamboni, Dar Es Salaam.

WHO WE ARE

Juma Minchande was born and raised in Kigamboni and joined a community center in the same area at a young age himself. As a professional acrobat, he toured through Europe together with colleagues in 2014 and 2016. He quickly realized he wanted to start an organization for talent development, whose principles were honesty and fairness, on his own. Since 2018, he has been involved in the development of “Jamii Kwanza” on an honorary basis. He is responsible for acrobatics courses, as well as social education and general management, especially sponsorships and family support.
Anna Steger keeps track of our finances and is another founder of the organization. She’s also the perfectionist and the creative mind of the pack, and enjoys preparing engaging English and Social Education lessons for the youths at the centre.
Rashid Simba functions as our general secretary. Even though he’s currently abroad in China to work as an acrobat, he’s always eager to learn about any updates and any difficulties that Jamii Kwanza is facing. The wellbeing of any member of our organization is very dear to his heart.

2023 was not only a challenging but
also rewarding year for our organization. With the help of wonderful individuals, we were able to make positive impacts in the community and develop our work.
